What is What We Hate?

Excellent question, and one that I am happy to answer. What We Hate (often abbreviated as WWH) is a music webzine that primarily focuses on smaller, independent acts and features streaming music, snarky commentary, and so forth.

How’d you come up with the name What We Hate?

Stole it! Well, borrowed it. “What We Hate” is the name of a song by the band Screeching Weasel and it appears on their record titled My Brain Hurts. You can listen to it here. I was having a hard time coming up with a name when that song came on. I thought it sounded cool.

When is WWH updated?

We’ll inevitably miss a few here and there, but the site is updated almost daily. You can read more about our features and on what days they’re posted here.

Why do you do this?

For the kids, man!

Do you get paid?

No way and we’re totally okay with that. We do this for the love of the music and to help out bands we like, not to make money. We do accept donations, but every donation we receive goes back into the site in some form.

Will you write about my band?

Honestly, probably not. We’re not too keen on writing puff pieces for bands unless we’re really into the band. You’re welcome to try, though.

We do accept submissions for review, and you can check out the Contact page for our mailing information. We can’t guarantee that whatever you send us will be reviewed and we certainly can’t guarantee a positive review. If you can’t take the heat…

We never thought you’d ask! I’m always looking for new contributors. Email Bryne for more information. No experience necessary.

How can I be informed when WWH updates?

The easiest way is to check the site multiple times a day, but if you don’t feel like doing that there are other avenues.

If you have a myspace page, add WWH and Bryne as friends. Bulletins are posted that link to the site whenever it’s updated. Plus you can lurk my shit if you really want to.
